MILLER BONDED CAPTURES FIRST PLACE IN SMACNA ARIZONA’S SIXTH ANNUAL SPRING GOLF TOURNEY
A four-man team representing Miller Bonded Inc. of Phoenix has captured first place in the Sixth Annual SMACNA Arizona Invitational Golf Tournament. Held at the Legacy Golf Resort, the tournament, featuring contractors and guests of the Arizona chapter of the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association, boasted a field of nearly 150 golfers.
The goal of SMACNA Arizona's golf tournament is to allow SMACNA Arizona members and others in the HVAC and related industries to network and compete in a fun environment.
"SMACNA Arizona has taken a leadership position in the HVAC industry to encourage networking with others in the industry and to further the organization's commitment to upholding the highest standards of quality and excellence in all facets of the sheet metal and air conditioning industry," said Carol Goguen, SMACNA Arizona's executive director.

Aranda correctly predicted Tuesday, April 21 as the first 100 degree day to be recorded by the National Weather Service this year. She was only off by one minute, predicting 1:25 p.m. as the time for the mercury to reach the century mark. The temperature first reached triple digits at 1:26 p.m. She was honored at SMACNA Arizona's Sixth Annual Invitational Golf Tournament at the Legacy Golf Resort in Phoenix.

JATC RECEIVES HIGH HONORS FROM INTERNATIONAL TRAINING INSTITUTE

In March 2003, the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC) has been honored with gold status accreditation by the International Training Institute (ITI). More than 100 criteria had to be met and demonstrated with proof to satisfy the ITI standard, including a library of reference material and a registered apprenticeship program. Proof of compliance with various federal and state agencies was also necessary to establish the high standard achieved by the JATC.

LOCAL SHEET METAL CONTRACTORS
DONATE MUCH-NEEDED REPAIR SERVICES TO CITY OF PHOENIX

SMACNA Cares, the month-long community outreach project spearheaded by Valley sheet metal contractors has led to new HVAC repair and equipment for ten local families. In June 2003, thanks to the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors of America (SMACNA) Arizona Chapter, ten homes will be much cooler and more comfortable this summer. SMACNA contractors and employees donated time and materials to install new air conditioning and evaporative cooler units to needy families.
The homes were chosen with the help of the Emergency Home Repair Program administered by the city of Phoenix Neighborhood Services Department. Recipients were selected from a group of low-income homeowners applying to the city of Phoenix for loans to maintain or repair their homes.

In March 2003, in support of American troops overseas, the Sheet Metal and
Air Conditioning Contractors National Association (SMACNA) of Arizona compiled care packages to send to soldiers in Iraq and Kuwait.
SMACNA-Arizona was able to get a jumpstart on showing their support thanks to websites such as www.operationmilitarypride.org. Care packages included necessities such as travel-size bottles of mouthwash, toothpaste, tissues and hand sanitizer, as well as more hard-to-find "state-side" items, such as magazines, candy, beef jerky, nuts and powder Gatorade.
